Research position for Environmental Analytical Chemistry Student for a short term stay at Institute for Environmental Studies IVM, VU University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Scope: Analysis of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in environmental samples from Lake Skadar/Shkodra at a top European environmental chemistry laboratory located in the Netherlands.

Your profile:
*University student (PhD, MSc or BSc) from Serbia, Kosovo, Republic of Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania or Montenegro (check at this website partner Universities and contact points).
*Background in environmental or analytical chemistry
*Open-minded, motivated
*Preferably, with knowledge and/or experience with extraction of environmental samples (soil, sediments, water or biota) with organic solvents, extract purification steps, and analytical instrumentation (e.g. gas chromatography with ECD, MS detection)
*Good working knowledge of English (although TOEFL not required)
*Ambition to study abroad

Start date: Autumn 2010, (ca. 5 month period). Preferable participation in NEWEN field work session in summer 2010 in Montenegro. The visit must be completed by May 2011.

Funding: Available for one (1) student. The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of his/her skills that are relevant to the project as well as the candidate’s motivation. Deadline for Applications: 1 June 2010.
